Gonzaga Day: Formation in Service and Scholarship

Honoring St. Aloysius Gonzaga Through Academic Excellence and Charitable LivingAcademic and Spiritual FormationOn June 6, 2025, Gonzaga Preparatory and Primary School gathers in the courtyard to celebrate Gonzaga Day.

The ceremony opens with the choir’s hymn, and Jesuit priests lead a short Mass. Students enact scenes from St. Aloysius Gonzaga’s life, his choice of humility over privilege, his care for plague victims and each reading and reflection invites pupils to find God in study, prayer, and service.

Recognizing Academic MagisThe Principal announces the grade “A” performers by name, and each of the students step forward to receive a specially blessed book or study tool. These gifts symbolize the Ignatian Magis, striving always for the greater good of others.

It affirms values of caring for the person by honoring both intellect and character. Though a unity of academics and spiritual values the school affirms that true excellence unites scholarship with compassion.

A Call to Service After the gift-giving, students will have a moment together for a photo session and share their joy. It is also a moment for them to discern where they have grown and where they must grow further. In this reflective moment, pupils articulate personal commitments of service for others.

This includes service to neighbours and those in need. It can be in the form of visiting the sick to the local health clinic, or to care for our campus garden. Each pledge echoes St. Aloysius’s example, transforming a celebration of grades into a formative call to live one’s faith in concrete acts of love.
